Can you forecast daily methane concentrations at monitoring stations around the world five days ahead?
Methane traps around 80 times more heat than carbon dioxide over 20 years, yet breaks down within a decade, making it one of the fastest levers for slowing warming. Acting on it means knowing when and where concentrations rise. In this challenge, you will forecast daily methane levels five days ahead at 59 stations across six continents, using station measurements from ICOS, AGAGE, SNO, NOAA and JMA alongside NOAA weather forecasts. In a twist on a normal machine learning challenge, your predictions are scored against measurements that haven’t happened yet. This global challenge is open to all, sponsored by Green Rising Barbados in partnership with Future Barbados, and powered by Zindi.
